The Electoral Registration Officer for Ashford has sent an annual enquiry to the addresses of all registered voters in Ashford.
You must respond to this form even if there are no changes to make:
- by completing the hard copy and returning it,
- completing the information online at the address given on the form
- providing the information by phoning the number given
If you do not respond members of your household will be removed from the Electoral Register, so you will not be able to vote in future elections, and you could be fined £1000.
Did you know?
Many organisations rely on your being on the Electoral Register as evidence of your identity.
- In one example a family were not permitted to stay in planned holiday accommodation because they were not on the Electoral Register.
- You are unlikely to be able to open a bank account, take out a loan or mortgage or get a credit card if you are not registered to vote
Am I registered?
If you do not receive an Annual Enquiry Form or have any questions about Electoral Registration you can contact Electoral Services on 01233 330402. Please note Electoral Services will not discuss your registration with anyone else including family members.

We are not responsible for the form but do think the process is fairly straight forward.
The subject asks the question “Is the electoral register information correct…?”
The next two boxes give more detail on when you need to respond.
Below this is the information you need to check.
Then instructions on how to log on to the response website.
I have lived at my house of multiple occupancy (HMO) for over 20 years and on the electoral register. I am not responsible for the other residents with your “demand” for registration to vote. On this site I see no way of doing this “demand” on line. I AM ALREADY REGISTERED and should not have to do it again. Some people are not savvy with technology. Explain please why I should do it again.
Mr Richardson
We are not responsible for the the requirement to register to vote or complete an annual canvas form nor do we manage the Register. We try to make residents aware of their obligations.
The Electoral Registration Officer, who is employed by Ashford Borough Council, is required to issue an Annual Canvas Form to every household in the Borough under the The Representation of the People Act 1983 S.9D and anybody receiving an Annual Canvas Form is required to respond to the Form under The Representation of the People (England and Wales) Regulations 2001 Regulation 23.
If each household in your accommodation has a separate address (eg. Flat a, 1, Any Street) the annual canvas should be sent to each address. If no separate addresses are registered you can ask for an individual response form by contacting Electoral Services on the number given in the post. The web address and codes required to respond online will be given in the form sent to you.
I recieved a letter telling me I had to and was legally required to register to vote, it is easy to do they said. I did it “online” it was as easy as they said. A few months later I got another letter, its easy to do they said, (same as first letter) duly compoleted to fill in form with required security codes, only to be told I had already responded……. I have just got a THIRD letter exactly the same as the previous, apparently its still easy to do as well.
