Doorstep scams are still a big problem (13% of all scams) & often target vulnerable members of public – help them stay safe & #scamaware.

Want to avoid cold callers on your doorstep? Get a sticker for your front door from your local Trading Standards or police force

Never buy electricity from someone who knocks at the door. Electricity is not sold in this way by companies.

Elwick Place development exhibition

The proposals for the comprehensive redevelopment of the derelict Elwick Place site, adjacent to shared space in the heart of Ashford town centre, are due to go on public display later this month. These initial proposals, from the leading UK developer Stanhope, represent in excess of £75 million of private investment into Ashford, and include –

  • A multi-screen Cinema
  • A family hotel to support the borough’s growing tourist economy
  • Restaurant space to attract high quality dining experiences
  • Homes, including private apartments, rental and retirement properties
  • Attractive public space and landscaping

The plans, which have been designed by Guy Hollaway Architects, will be presented to the public for the first time at a public exhibition at Unit 16A in County Square Shopping Centre, adjacent to the site. The dates are as follows

  • Thursday 30 July: 10am – 3pm
  • Friday 31 July: 3pm – 8pm (attendees are advised to enter via the Tufton St entrance after 7pm)

English and Maths courses for parents and carers

Free English and Maths courses for parents and carers are being offered at Children’s Centres in Ashford. The courses are 16 weeks long, informal, open to all levels of learners and will look at how English or Maths are taught at school and how parents/carers can prepare to help them with their homework. There is also the opportunity to gain a nationally recognised qualification. (more…)
