Your comments on these representations and any suggestions for additional representations are welcome.

Our draft comments on the application can be viewed on the Publications page. We welcome your suggestions for amendments or additional comments.
We have added further extracts from the Local Plan to website under Local Information / Planning and Development / Local Plan. Each section is a separate post allowing you to make comments. A link is provided to open the relevant part of the Plan online so that you have access to the full text. You can, of course, make your own comments via the Council’s Consultation Portal but comments need to be in the form of an objection with justification showing that the part of the Plan concerned is not ‘sound’.
We have started to review the Draft Local Plan in detail and have posted extracts of the site specific policies that will affect residents of South Ashford on the website.

Ashford Borough Council is currently preparing a new Local Plan for the borough. The plan sets out the land that needs to be provided in the borough to accommodate new homes and jobs up to 2030. It also includes the policies that will be used to help decide planning applications.
The Local Plan to 2030 aims to make sure that future development within Ashford is well planned, helping to create great places and strong communities and provides a consistent approach to planning across the whole borough.
The new Local Plan will allocate sites for development as well as establishing planning policies and guidance to ensure local development is built in accordance with the principles of sustainable development.
It will address housing, employment, retail, leisure, transport, community infrastructure and environmental issues such as adapting to climate change and ensuring high quality design.
The general principle of the Local Plan is to encourage growth within the economy of Ashford to provide homes, employment, retail floor space and infrastructure such as community facilities and green spaces.
Whilst growth in the economy is important, the plan also seeks to protect Ashford’s valued assets such as heritage, leisure, nature and open spaces. (more…)
Ashford Borough Council’s Local Plan to 2013 will go before the Council’s Cabinet on 9 June 2016. The Plan includes proposals for development on new sites in South Ashford as well as further development in Kingsnorth.
Following approval by Cabinet the proposals will be published for public consultation.
Daniel Carter, Principal Policy Planner from Ashford Borough Council will attend the South Ashford Community Forum Meeting on 13th July to discuss the proposals.

A House of Lords Committeee have released a report titled Building Better PlacesCivic Voice have welcomed the report in a press release, emphasising the recommendations for maintaining and improving local control and community engagement in the planning process, and preservation of the historic environment:
The House of Lords Committeee on National Policy for the Built Environment have released a Report of Session 2015-16 titled Building Better Places last week. The report (which is available here) covered areas such as the recent trends in the built environment, creating better places through design, quality and standards, building for the long-term, delivering more housing and local leadership, delivery and skills. Members of the committee included Baroness Andrews, who works with Civic Voice to raise our issues in the House of Lords. (more…)
Ashford Borough Council (ABC) have appointed a consultant to undertake a review of the Conservation Area (CA) of Ashford Town Centre. This includes an updated appraisal of the CA which describes the history and character of the area as well as discussing enhancement opportunities in a new management plan. The document is in draft form and ABC would like the views of local residents on the content. You can view the draft appraisal and proposals through this online consultation, where you can make as many comments as you wish.
ABC are also holding a public exhibition in St Mary’s Church Hall on Saturday 28th November from10am-1pm for residents and business owners to come along and view the documents in person. (more…)
Ashford Borough Council have published their five year housing land supply statement, which sets out the Council’s assessment of its supply of housing land over the next five years, from a start date of April 1st 2015. It shows that the Council can demonstrate a supply of deliverable housing sites in excess of the five year plus buffer requirements.
A new SPD has been adopted by ABC.
