Photography students win awards

Ashford College logoAshford College recently hosted the Ashford Photographic Society Schools Competition and are so proud to hear that two of their own students came runners up in two categories. Big congratulations to Rhys Hawkins (Level 3 Photography) and Shannon Pankhurst (Level 2 Photography)!

The intention of the annual competition is “to encourage photography as an art form and to harness the enthusiasm of both the art departments [of the schools competing] and pupils.”

The event was a great success with many turning out to see the work of the students.

Apply for a primary school place before 15th January

Kent County CouncilApplications are open for primary, infant and junior places in Kent schools, with about 16,000 families expected to apply for a place to start school next September.

Families are being encouraged to apply as soon as possible for a primary school place for their children and not miss the 15 January deadline.

Last year there were more than 500 late applications, which made it more difficult for parents to secure the preferred places.

Every child born between 1 September 2011 and 31 August 2012 needs to be registered for a school place, along with those who are moving from Infant school to junior school.

When a child has older brothers or sisters already in school, their family still needs to apply for a school place so they can start at the same school in September 2016. (more…)

The Minutes of the meeting will be available on the ABC Committee page

ReCycle

cropped-night-riding4The ReCycle programme is a partnership project with Goldwyn School, offering an affordable source of refurbished bikes, alongside an educational programme for the students at the school.  The concept is simple: DONATE – REFURBISH – SALE.

DONATE your unwanted bicycles to the programme and get a 20% discount at the bike sale.  You can drop bikes off at Goldwyn School (Mark Sibley), The Youthy (Jim Winter) or call 07762221024 (Spencer Morgan) and we’ll pick up.  Please ensure bikes are in a fixable condition.

The students at Goldwyn School are helping to REFURBISH the bikes as part of their education programme.  All bikes are throughly checked and serviced to ensure they are in a roadworthy condition ready for the bike sale.

Our next Bike SALE is on Saturday 12th December (10am-1pm) – pick up a bargain bike just in time for Christmas (and a free mince pie too!).  We’re already planing the next Bike Sale in time for early spring.  The bike sales will be at Goldwyn College (Norfolk Drive, TN23 4FB).
