Sensory ServicesKent County Council has spent some time asking sight impaired, deaf and deafblind people, their families and carers and professionals working in a variety of organisations what services and support they should provide in the future. As a result they have produced a draft Sensory Strategy for Kent. The Strategy sets out a vision and plan for services for sensory impaired people over the next three years, 2016-19.

They are now keen to check that the Draft Strategy accurately reflects what they have been told. They invite you to read the Draft Strategy and then complete a short questionnaire, giving your feedback.

Kent County Council phone scam

KCC LogoKent County Council (KCC) have received a number of reports of scam phone calls from people claiming to be from KCC. The caller asks if you have contacted the NHS about a recent accident you, or a member of your family has had.

The telephone number used to make these calls is 03000 41 40 00, which was a telephone number for KCC. Please be aware that the calls are not being made by Kent County Council, this number is being replicated by caller ID spoofing equipment as part of a scam or hoax and is no longer in use.

KCC are concerned that residents may be asked for payment or information such as bank details.

If you receive one of these scam telephone calls please report it to Kent Trading Standards or telephone the Citizens Advice consumer service on 03454 04 05 06.

KCC consult on streetlighting options

KCC LogoKent County Council has recently secured funding to convert all of its street lights to Light Emitting Diode (LED) technology.

As the new LED / CMS technology is more flexible, they have the opportunity to review the way that they provide street lighting. They want to hear your views on the options for street lighting across the county. Your responses will be used to inform the Council Members’ decision making process for a new street lighting policy.

They would like to know which of the following options you would prefer:

  • Part-night lighting – the current level of service
  • All-night lighting

Along with these options they are also seeking your views on the dimming of street lights when roads are less busy.

Record Breakers – Summer Reading Challenge

Free summer fun for families!

The Summer Reading Challenge for children starts in all Kent libraries on Saturday 11 July.

The Challenge, organised by The Reading Agency charity and your local library, encourages children aged 4 to 11 to read 6 books during the long summer break.

Children will collect stickers for reading whichever library books they choose. When they read 6 books they will receive a fantastic medal and certificate. (more…)

SACF Comments on KCC Division Boundaries

Following our post of 12 May 2015 we South Ashford Community Forum has reviewed the ‘Draft recommendations for the further electoral review of Kent County Council’. published by the Local Government Boundary Commision for England (LGBCE) . Although there is little change from the existing divisions that serve South Ashford we believe the boundaries could be improved.We have submitted our comments to the LGBCE. (more…)
